DEMELZA JAMES CHILDRENS HOSPICE AT HOME - Is the only children's residential hospice in Kent, East Sussex and South London providing a wide range of services to life-limited children. Our picture (below) shows Lion President Chris Bignell and Fund Raising Chairman Cyril Peskett in the Eastbourne town centre presenting a cheque to James Hanaway and Vicky Pickering of the Children`s Hospice.

Almost £5,000 was raised at the LIONS DRAGON BOAT RACING FESTIVAL held at the end of May `04 at Eastbourne`s Sovereign Harbour North and 50% of this sum was pledged to the Children's Hospice. The remainder was placed inThe Eastbourne Lions Charitable Trust.

QUICKEN TRUST -
Again Lions members took part in the supporting this locally based charity by entering the sponsored BIKE RIDE FOR UGANDA 2006. This was the Trust's sixth annual bike ride that, in the previous 5 years, has raised £80,000 and provided: A Primary School for 400 orphans which opened in 2002, a Parish Health Centre which opened in 2003 that treats 1,500 patients a month, a Community Housing Project which opened in 2004 that provides improved living conditions and safe housing for some of the orphans and a Secondary School with 90 pupils opened in February 2006

Our Club is also in touch with the Lions Club in Kampala and together they hope to be able to further assist the hundreds of orphans in Kabubbu.

LIONS SIGHT SAVERS INTERNATIONAL - Sponsorship of Comprehensive Eye Care Schemes in the third world. The schemes are provided at base hospitals that undertake the provision of clinical eye care and the rehabilitation and prevention of blindness education.

WATER AID - Helping to bring clean water to thousands of people in the third world by donating to provide tools, materials and training
